A front-lit set: C/M/Y + a black key

Multi-colour models swap one solid colour per region; a C/M/Y + black set covers most needs, but you may also just buy the exact colours you need. For tonal work, the most important spools are a true opaque black and a translucent white that spans dark→light.

On an AMS/MMU, expect filament purged between swaps (a waste tower) — match the slot order to your slicer.
